It’s really easy to get colours right. It’s really hard to get black – and neutrals – right. Black is certainly a colour but it’s also an illusion. I’m a fashion designer and people think, what do I know? I like things simple. The key to my collections is sensuality. Fashion to me has become very disposable; I wanted to get back to craft, to clothes that could last.

I try as much as possible to give you a great basic product and what comes out, I feel, is really amazing. The great thing about fashion is that it always looks forward. It should be natural, and that’s how I like women to look. I like them to feel comfortable and look organic. You have to always work against what you did before, and even against your taste. I remember walking the dog one day, I saw a car full of teenage girls, and one of them rolled down the window and yelled, ‘Marc Jacobs!’ in a French accent.

Online media is increasingly influential in fashion. Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it. Age and size are only numbers. It’s the attitude you bring to clothes that make the difference. Attitude is everything. Age and size are only numbers. It’s the attitude you bring to clothes that make the difference.

Five styles to follow

What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today when human contacts go so fast. Fashion is instant language. There are always protests, whether you do something good or bad.

  • The art of mixing high end and low end fashion: it is important to have those classic pieces, the so-called “pillars” on which you can build your entire outfit upon.

  • Layering is IN this Summer: Try layering a T-shirt under a slip dress or your favourite strapless going-out top over a casual blouse. There really are no wrong choices when it comes to layering — after all, fashion is extremely experimental and encourages risk-taking. Who knows? You may even spark the next hottest trend.

  • Mix dressy with casual: Throwing a denim jacket over a sundress or blazer over a t-shirt & jeans instantly creates a casual yet put-together look that can easily go from day to night, from office to a dinner party.

  • Summer Style: Wearing prints: Go florals- Take a floral maxi skirt from the beach to the streets by layering it with a crisp button-down shirt. Colourful heels will add a little bit more sophistication. If you're feeling bold, try shoes with a contrasting pattern.

  • All the Best Street Style Looks From London Fashion Week Fall 2016: London Fashion Week is renowned for having extremely experimental runway looks — hello, Alexander McQueen, Simone Rocha and Mary Katrantzou! So you best believe the street style is just as good. New York has the polish, but London street style is all about the fun.
